Re-imagining Public Access at Peterson-Puritan (OU2) Superfund Site in Cumberland

To learn more about this site’s history and ongoing efforts to clean it up and create access, check out EPA’s presentation to the Collaborative in June of 2025 here (starting around minute 10).

Join the Blackstone River Watershed Council/Friends of the Blackstone, EPA, and partners to re-imagine what public re-use could look like at the former Peterson-Puritan Superfund Site in Cumberland (aka OU2).

This site was a historic dumping grounds in the 1980s and has been undergoing a massive clean up in the past few years, including taking the trash and fill out of the floodplain and capping it in a large hill. As this work begins to wrap up, EPA is working with partners to inform how to design public amenities at the newly cleaned up site - maybe that includes walking trails, river access, a playground, bike racks, and more.

Light refreshments will be available. No registration is necessary.
